Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a major leap in its autonomous mobility ambitions through strategic partnerships with Uber, WeRide, and Baidu. The collaboration will fast-track the deployment of autonomous taxis in Dubai, with commercial driverless operations expected to launch by 2026.
Global Partnerships to Shape Future Mobility
Through these agreements:
- WeRide will lead the initial rollout and testing phase, starting in 2025 with safety drivers onboard.
- Uber will integrate autonomous vehicles into its ride-hailing platform in Dubai.
- Baidu’s Apollo Go, known for its 150+ million km of safe AV driving, will expand operations into the Middle East for the first time.
The initiative supports Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25% of all transportation autonomous by 2030.
Smarter Cities, Safer Roads
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA:
“Autonomous taxis will revolutionize urban mobility, reduce traffic accidents caused by human error, and support inclusive transport for seniors and people of determination.”
The project also aligns with Dubai’s First and Last-Mile Strategy, enhancing connections between public transport and daily destinations.
