Joby Aviation and Uber Expand Partnership with Blade Integration
Joby Aviation, the leading developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxis, has announced a major step in its partnership with Uber Technologies, the world’s largest rideshare and delivery platform. Beginning as early as next year, Blade’s air mobility services will be integrated directly into the Uber app, enabling users to book short-haul flights seamlessly alongside rideshare and delivery options.
The announcement follows Joby’s acquisition of Blade’s passenger business in August 2025, strengthening its position in the global advanced air mobility sector.
Blade’s Proven Network and Urban Demand
In 2024, Blade carried more than 50,000 passengers across high-demand routes in New York and Southern Europe, including connections from Manhattan to JFK, Newark Airport, and the Hamptons. Blade also operates in Southern Europe, linking popular leisure destinations.
Once integrated into the Uber app, customers will be able to choose Blade flights for faster, traffic-free connections across major cities. Blade’s network of landing points with dedicated lounges will remain a cornerstone of the service.
Leaders Speak: A New Era of Urban Air Travel
JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, said:
“We’re excited to introduce Uber customers to the magic of seamless urban air travel. Integrating Blade into the Uber app is the natural next step in our global partnership with Uber and will lay the foundation for the introduction of our quiet, zero-emissions aircraft in the years ahead.”
Andrew Macdonald, President and COO of Uber, added:
“Since Uber’s earliest days, we’ve believed in the power of advanced air mobility to deliver safe, quiet, and sustainable transportation. Partnering with Joby allows us to bring the next generation of travel to cities worldwide.”
Joby and Uber: A Long-Standing Collaboration
The Joby–Uber partnership dates back to 2019. In 2021, Joby acquired Uber’s Elevate division, giving the company vital tools in market selection, demand simulation, and multimodal operations.
The latest move—following the acquisition of Blade’s passenger operations—marks a critical milestone. Joby intends to leverage Blade’s infrastructure and decade of vertical air travel experience to scale its electric air taxi service across global markets.
Electric Aircraft Designed for the Future
Joby’s aircraft is engineered to:
- Carry four passengers and a pilot
- Reach speeds of up to 200 mph
- Operate with an acoustic footprint 100 times lower than helicopters
- Deliver quiet, zero-emission flights
These design features are key to making urban air mobility sustainable and city-friendly.
Global Rollout: Dubai, New York, LA, UK, Japan
Joby plans to deploy its electric air taxis in Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the UK, and Japan, markets known for both high passenger demand and government support for smart mobility initiatives.
The integration with Uber ensures that passengers will be able to book door-to-door journeys, combining ground rides and air travel into one streamlined experience.
Conclusion: The Future of Flying with Uber
By merging Uber’s global scale, Blade’s established passenger network, and Joby’s revolutionary electric aircraft, this partnership sets the stage for a new era of air travel.
As urban centers worldwide grapple with congestion, pollution, and demand for faster connections, Joby and Uber’s collaboration represents the future of sustainable, high-speed, city-to-city travel—with Blade flights soon available at the tap of a button.
