The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has partially opened the Al Hamidiya Bridge project on Sheikh Zayed Road in Ajman, advancing the initiatives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to sustainably enhance national infrastructure. The opening was attended by Eng. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, and other senior officials.
What the project delivers
Designed as part of an integrated plan to upgrade Ajman’s road network, the bridge will support comprehensive development goals, improve quality of life, and help the emirate keep pace with urban growth and rising traffic volumes along Sheikh Zayed Road.
Key facts
- Length: ~1,100 metres
- Capacity: Four lanes in each direction
- Features: Overhead lighting; enhanced safety and visibility
- Status: Superstructure complete; lower intersections, pavements, car parks, and rainwater drainage works ongoing
- Connectivity: New road linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road (SMBZ Rd) and a connecting bridge under construction
- Timeline: All works targeted for completion by year-end
Mobility and access benefits
The project is engineered to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and reduce travel times by up to 60% on Sheikh Zayed Road. It will significantly enhance access to residential and service areas connected to SMBZ Road, including Al Hamidiya and Al Rashidiya districts.
Better access to key facilities
The bridge will also improve approach routes to major community assets, including the under-construction Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Hospital and the Zayed Educational Complex in Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed City.
Why it matters for Ajman
- Sustainable growth: Builds long-term capacity for a growing urban population.
- Safety & resilience: Upgraded lighting and drainage systems support safer, all-weather operations.
- Network efficiency: New links to SMBZ Road distribute traffic more evenly across the emirate’s arterial network.
- Quality of life: Shorter commutes and smoother travel support residents, businesses, and public services.
What’s next
With the bridge structure complete and ancillary works progressing—intersections, pavements, parking, and drainage—the Ministry’s plan aims to fully open the corridor by year-end, unlocking the project’s full congestion-relief and connectivity benefits across Ajman.
