Dubai's vehicle rental sector experienced significant growth in 2024, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The number of newly registered commercial vehicles in Dubai rose by approximately 43% compared to the previous year.
The number of registered rental companies in Dubai increased by around 33% during the same period, with 867 new companies registered, bringing the total to 3,494, up from 2,627 in 2023. The total rental fleet in Dubai expanded significantly, reaching 71,040 vehicles from 49,725.
Notably, high-end vehicle rentals in Dubai rose by 73%, indicating a strong demand for luxury car rental options. Furthermore, the electric vehicle rental fleet in Dubai grew by 50%, reflecting an increasing interest in sustainable transportation solutions.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, emphasized that this growth highlights Dubai’s competitiveness and attractiveness for businesses in the commercial transport sector. The sector plays a crucial role in supporting Dubai's broader economic and trade ambitions, particularly the goals outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda “D33”, which aims to position Dubai among the world’s top three economic hubs.
The RTA is committed to enhancing service delivery and regulatory frameworks to support the Dubai vehicle rental sector. Initiatives include the Commercial Vehicle Life Extension Service, the Hourly Commercial Vehicle Rental Service (promoting safer rentals), and the Commercial Licensing System (CLS), which simplifies application procedures. The RTA has also extended the operational lifespan of electric vehicles and introduced new categories for luxury and premium vehicles.
The car rental sector in Dubai remains a key pillar of the economy, supporting both tourism and corporate business activities. Rental operations are regulated through the TARS electronic rental system, which covers light and heavy commercial vehicles and streamlines processes. This system ensures efficient and transparent interactions between car rental companies in Dubai and their customers.
The RTA continues to play a pioneering role in facilitating business operations within the Dubai vehicle rental sector.
