JLT metro station, one of the busiest in Dubai, has been renamed DMCC with immediate effect
DMCC, the world’s flagship free zone for commodities trade and enterprise, announced on Monday the renaming of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) metro station to DMCC, effective immediately.
The move highlights DMCC’s ongoing effort to develop, enhance and connect the JLT district, host to a growing community of over 100,000 people who live, work and visit the area.
The newly named DMCC station serves as one of the busiest metro stations in Dubai, carrying 5.524 million passengers so far in 2018.
The JLT district is a mixed-use, energetic community comprising of 68 commercial and residential towers.
In 2017, DMCC announced the development of a new premium district, Uptown Dubai, set to offer world-class commercial, residential and retail spaces, including hotels, restaurants, recreational areas, and two iconic super-tall towers.
DMCC also revealed that an air-conditioned walkway is planned that will provide pedestrians with direct access to both Uptown Dubai and Almas Tower from the DMCC metro station without having to step outside.
According to Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), public transport, including metro, buses, tram and marine, carried 277.9 million passengers in the first half of 2018.
The Red and Green metro lines carried an additional 2.734 million commuters in the first half of 2018, in comparison to the previous year.
