Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Emaar Properties, has officially announced a major expansion of the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. The initiative aims to accommodate rising passenger traffic, especially during public holidays, peak tourist seasons, and large-scale events such as New Year’s Eve in Downtown Dubai.
65% Increase in Metro Station Capacity by 2024
The total area of the station will be expanded from 6,700 square metres to 8,500 square metres, resulting in a 65% increase in hourly passenger capacity — from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers per hour.
Once completed, the station will have the ability to serve up to 220,000 passengers per day, making it one of the busiest and most essential hubs in Dubai’s metro network.

Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station: A Strategic Transportation Hub
“This metro station is a vital connection point in Dubai’s transit network due to its location near Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Downtown Dubai,” stated Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.
The expansion is part of RTA’s long-term transport strategy to meet future demand up to 2040, especially with passenger numbers growing at an annual rate of 7.5% over the last five years.
New Year’s Eve Sees Over 110,000 Passengers
