Abu Dhabi Aviation Group (ADA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) to deploy the first fleet of Midnight electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft globally, starting this year.
Pioneering Urban Air Mobility
This initiative, part of Archer’s global "Launch Edition", will introduce an initial fleet in partnership with ADA and the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to safely implement air taxi services in the region. The goal is to revolutionize urban travel by reducing 60-90 minute car commutes to efficient 10-20 minute air taxi flights.
The Midnight eVTOL aircraft is a piloted, four-passenger model designed for quick, consecutive trips with minimal charge time.
Strategic Partnership for Future Expansion
Under the agreement, ADA and Archer will collaborate to develop a scalable operational framework for commercial deployments in emerging markets. Archer will provide ADA with experienced pilots, technicians, and engineers to ensure a safe and seamless operational launch.
Additionally, Archer will implement a comprehensive software infrastructure for managing urban air mobility (UAM) operations, including an integrated booking application.
Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
During an official signing ceremony, H.E. Nader Al Hammadi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Aviation, and H.E. Badr Al Olama, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), emphasized the commitment to innovation. Abu Dhabi Aviation also announced its financial backing for the deployment of the Midnight fleet, making it the first operator of electric air taxis in the Middle East.
