RTA Awards Contract for Dubai Islands Bridge to Enhance Connectivity & Urban Mobility
In line with Dubai’s vision to strengthen its road infrastructure, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract worth Dhs 786 million to construct direct access bridges to Dubai Islands from Bur Dubai.
This strategic project supports urban growth, improves mobility, and enhances connectivity between key areas of the emirate. The initiative includes:
- A 1,425-metre bridge with four lanes in each direction
- Capacity for 16,000 vehicles per hour
- 75-metre navigational channel for vessels
- 18.5-metre elevation above Dubai Creek
- Pedestrian and cycling track with elevators
- 2,000 metres of new surface roads
Al Shindagha Corridor Integration
This development is part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Project, one of Dubai’s largest road infrastructure projects. It will cover 15 intersections over 13 km and is expected to reduce travel time from 104 minutes to 16 minutes, saving up to Dhs 45 billion over 20 years.

Wider Impact: Partnership with Dubai Holding
The RTA and Dubai Holding are jointly investing Dhs 6 billion into urban mobility improvements. The agreement will:
- Enhance access to 15 key areas including JVC, JVT, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, Al Furjan, and more
- Add 4 entry/exit points and flyovers to JVC (traffic capacity doubled, travel time cut by 70%)
- Improve access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City
- Add pedestrian bridges in Business Bay and Palm Jumeirah for safety and flow
- Improve road access to Dubai International City (Phase 3) (travel time cut from 15 to 5 minutes)
