Residents and businesses in Abu Dhabi have come together to contribute more than AED 100 million to the ‘Together We Are Good’ programme amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Since being launched on Monday, the Authority of Social Contribution – known as Ma’an – has received more than 601 calls and 4,230 SMS messages from people making financial or in-kind contributions, or volunteering time and expertise.
In a statement, Ma’an said that 512 people have signed on as volunteers and in-kind contributions such as hospitals, clinics, hotel rooms, compounds, villas, apartments, cars, meals, industrial buildings, tents, farms and land space.
The ‘Together We Are Good’ initiative is designed to channel the community’s efforts towards alleviating the impact of the current Covid-19 pandemic.
The collected funds will be used to provide medical and educational aid, as well as food supplies, as needed by Abu Dhabi authorities.
Notable contributions during the first few days of the initiative include a AED 20 million donation from businessman Dr. Abdulkader Sankari and his sons.
“I would like to thank the UAE leaders and people for the tremendous efforts they are making to address this global pandemic,” Sankari said. “The country has taken the necessary measures to keep us all safe and I would like to thank all the medical staff who are working around the clock to protect us from coronavirus that is widely spreading around the world.”
In a statement, Ma’an director general Salama Al Ameemi said that “the contributions we have received from Abu Dhabi and across the UAE is tangible evidence of the cohesive and collaborative community that we hope to achieve through Ma’an’s initiatives.
“These are unprecedented times but Abu Dhabi has a hugely philanthropic society and our community has shown that it is ready to step up and do what it can to be part of the national effort,” she added. “No matter how small or large, I encourage everyone who have not done so, to contribute in any way they can.”
Residents who wish to contribute financially can send SMS messages to 6670 (AED 1,000), 6678 (AED 500)), 6683 (AED 100) and 6658 (AED 50).
They can also call 8005-MAAN for volunteering and in-kind and financial contributions above AED 1,000 or WhatApp messages to 0543055366. Transfers can also be made via First Abu Dhabi Bank using the IBANM number AE100351011003988349032.
