Total of 581 traffic accidents reported during the 24-hour period
Dubai Police received a total 12,573 phone calls during the recent stormy weather, the emirate’s policing authority revealed.
During the 24-hour period of the heavy rain, Dubai Police said its Department of Command and Control in the General Department of Operations recorded a total of 581 traffic accidents.
Dubai Police’s SARS Department of Transport and Rescue also confirmed that there were no accidents in the mountain areas and the run-off areas in the emirate.
Col Turki Abdulrahman bin Fares, director of the Command and Control Centre, stressed the importance of the use of all vehicles lights in the early hours of the morning when going to work, and to check the weather through various media to avoid serious traffic accidents in addition to getting out of work well in advance.
The UAE will continue to experience “unstable” weather conditions and possible rainfall across the country on Sunday, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
In its forecast, the NCM noted that moderate to fresh winds over parts of the country may cause dust and sand to rise into the air, and is warning motorists to observe caution on the UAE’s roads in the event of reduced visibility.
Additionally, members of the public are being urged to avoid places in which water might collect, particularly in highland areas and in valleys.
