Homeowners in the UAE will also have to subscribe to the civil defence eSystem
All UAE homeowners are required to install fire detectors by September 2023, as per an approved UAE resolution.
The Cabinet, under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, approved the resolution that obliges residential homeowners to install fire detectors devices and subscribe to the civil defence e-system in 2020.
Owners were granted three years from the approval of the resolution to fulfil the mandate, this means that all homeowners have until September of this year to complete the installation.
Additionally, homeowners will also have to subscribe to the civil defence eSystem.
The resolution applies to existing homes and to the homes that are yet to be built.
The regulation mandates that before awarding a completion certificate for the construction of residential properties, government departments at the federal or local level responsible for issuing licenses must confirm the installation of fire detectors and the owner’s enrollment in the eSystem.
The installation expenses for these devices in the households of individuals with low income will be covered by the federal and local governments.
Previously, the federal government had taken care of these costs for property owners receiving social aid from the Ministry of Community Development.
The Ministry of Interior, through Civil Defence Departments, will carry out the provisions of the resolution and cooperate with all parties concerned to facilitate its implementation.
