MOSCOW - There is nothing unusual in the changes in the body of cosmonaut Hazza al-Mansouri, said Irina Larina, head of the proteomics laboratory of the Institute of biomedical problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The first cosmonaut from the UAE, Hazza al-Mansouri, arrived on the ISS last week. Earlier, he said that his body has changed: in particular, increased the size of the head and changed the sense of smell.
According to the expert, such symptoms are peculiar to astronauts who have just gone on a flight.
"It's like swelling of tissues and organs that are located above the middle of the body, because all fluids, including blood, lose weight in weightlessness. This is all noted, it is a subjective feeling of bursting, swelling, and smell is also changing because of this, because the mucosa is slightly swollen," she explained in an interview with the radio station "Says Moscow".
Larina noted that after returning to Earth, the cosmonaut will again experience unusual sensations.
"Dizziness, muscle weakness, difficulty maintaining balance. He will come back as if already a little different, " she said, noting that all of the above symptoms are common phenomena.
The ISS crew consisting of Russian Oleg Skripochka, American Jessica Meir and al-Mansouri went to the International space station from the Baikonur cosmodrome on September 25. An astronaut from the UAE will spend eight days there. The return of al-Mansouri on the Soyuz MS-12 ship, along with Russian Alexei Ovchinin and American Nick Hague, is scheduled for October 3.
