UAE - A new development project to promote agritech and food security was launched in Dubai on Saturday by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Called Food Technology Valley, it is the latest among Dubai's specialised cities and will seek to host both agricultural and food companies.
"The volume of our food trade exceeds Dh100 billion annually," said Sheikh Mohammed, taking to Twitter to announce the launch.
"We are a global logistical hub for food trade, and we will develop a new working environment for these type of companies to cultivate new agricultural technologies and consolidate future food security," he added.
The project will include a research centre, corporate headquarters, logistical stores and vertical and water cultivation areas, among others.
