Jumeirah Zoo will make way for new Dubai Safari after 50 years of operations
The Jumeirah Zoo, which has been operating in Dubai for 50 years, will be closed next month in preparation for the opening of the Dubai Safari project.
Khalid Al Suwaidi, Director of Leisure Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality, said that most of the animals at the zoo would be moved to the new project facilities.
"The Zoo has been a testimony to the leadership's commitment and keenness all these years to be ahead in wildlife conservation and providing entertainment services to the local community," he added in comments published by state news agency WAM.
"As part of our preparations for the opening of the Dubai Safari project and the closure of the Zoo, we are organising a ceremony on the 5th November to honour all employees," he added.
He said that public will also be allowed to attend the closing ceremony and enter the zoo free of charge on that day.
Last month, it was reported that Dubai’s $270 million new Safari park will be ready for a November opening.
The sprawling 119-hectare animal kingdom, with themed villages from Africa, Asia and Arabia is ready for their tenants from three continents to move in as temperatures drop, said safari chief Tim Husband.
