Arbor School will also benefit from both a scientist and artist in residence
Praxis, an education company based in Dubai, is expected to open its first school in September 2018, with the emphasis on environmental issues.
Praxis Education, led by Dr Sa’ad Al-Omari, a Kuwaiti-born, Cambridge-trained environmental scientist, said Arbor School will benefit from both a scientist and artist in residence, who will inspire the whole school.
He added that the school, located in the Al Furjan district of Dubai, will boast top-class facilities, using a bespoke biodome and gardens as key learning spaces to engage children in a deeper understanding of their ecology and environment.
Al-Omari said: “Human activities are seriously impacting global climate, threatening not only ecosystems, but also economies around the world, leading to an increase of hardship in societies on every continent and on generations to come.
"A contemporary ethic based on compassion and responsibility towards both the human and non-human world is needed now more than ever. It is this higher ethical sense that we aim to instill in our students, in the hope that they will form a vanguard generation that can begin to reverse the harmful trajectories we see unfolding around us.”
He added: “Dubai is a growing city of global recognition and the government has dedicated considerable resources to ensure that its schools compete favourably with the best in the world.
"We want to provide a style of education that lives up to these aspirations and that equips our students with the knowledge, skills and ethics required in our region and the world, within a fully inclusive and nurturing school environment."
The school is expected to open in September 2018, subject to building completion and final approval from Dubai's education authority.
