Emirates airline's flight from Dubai to Glasgow to Dubai was diverted to Manchester, while another service from Dubai to Heathrow was cancelled
An Emirates airline flight between Dubai and Glasgow was forced to divert to Manchester on Sunday as a result of high winds caused by Storm Ciara, the airline announced.
The return flight – EK 26 from Glasgow to Dubai – experienced a 3 hour and 45 minute delay.
Another flight, EK 29 to London Heathrow, was cancelled. The flight was due to take off at 9:40am today and land at 1:50pm local time.
“Emirates apologies for any inconvenience caused,” an airline spokesperson said in a statement sent to Arabian Business. “The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance.”
Besides the diversion and delay, the airline has so far not reported any other disruptions.
A number of airlines around the world have reported severe disruptions to their operations as a result of the storm, which has seen winds reported of up to 100 mph.
British Airways, for example, has cancelled at least 140 flights to and from Heathrow, including long-haul round trips to locations in Dubai, the US and Canada.
Another airline, Virgin Atlantic, has cancelled six inbound flights to Heathrow.
