Roads and Transport Authority awards contract to upgrade the Falcon Junction as part of multi-billion dirham Al Shandagha Roads Corridor scheme
Dubai's transport authority said on Saturday it has awarded a AED450 million ($122.5 million) for the construction of a key roads project in the emirate.
Following a directive from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai to improve the Al Shandagha Roads Corridor, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract to upgrade the Falcon Junction.
The project, which borders Al Khaleej, Khaled bin Al Waleed and Al Ghubaiba Streets will link with Shandagha Bridge (Infinity) Northwards.
The Shandagha Roads Corridor Improvement Project is being undertaken over five phases extending 13 km, along the Sheikh Rashid, Al Mina, Al Khaleej and Cairo Streets.
Upgrading the Falcon Junction will ensure free traffic movement across Al Shandagha Corridor and enhance traffic safety while providing more parking spaces under the new bridge, said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the RTA.
Due to the massive scope of Al Shandagha Corridor Project, which has a cost tag of AED5.35 billion, it had been split into five phases, two of which have been completed.
Work is currently underway on phase 3 and will be completed by the end of 2022.
Phase 4 is expected to be completed by 2025 while the final phase is slated for completion by 2027.
