The regional art exhibition Art Dubai will be held in Dubai in March.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The largest art exhibition in the region, Art Dubai, one of the main events of the Dubai cultural calendar, has announced a program for 2021. As previously reported, the exhibition will be held in the period from 17 to 23 March 2021 in the Souk Madinat Jumeirah complex.
This year, when the exhibition returns to a full-time format, 85 galleries from 36 countries will take part in it. 11 galleries will represent the growing art scene of the United Arab Emirates.
The Lawrie Shabibi Gallery will present the works of the artist Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim, who were selected to participate in the UAE National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2022, Salwa Zeidan Gallery will showcase the works of Hussein Sharif.
This year's Art Dubai 2021 exhibition will consist of three main sections: Art Dubai Contemporary, Art Dubai Modern and Bawwaba. Guests can expect performances on the beaches, karaoke and themed sections, live art sessions and excursions, as well as a number of art-related events in different areas of the emirate.
The Art Dubai Contemporary section will feature a wide range of galleries and artists-from representatives of new trends to well-known art centers from around the world. On the contrary, the Art Dubai Modern section will bring together works by contemporary artists working in the MENASA region. This year's section is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Til Fellrath.
The Bawwaba section, which means "gateway" in Arabic, is overseen by Nancy Adajania. It will feature solo presentations created over the past year, as well as alternative visions from various global centers of commerce, culture and the arts.
It is worth noting that in March 2020, the exhibition was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak-it was completely held online. The exhibition adapts to the changes and new requirements, will be held for the first time in its history at different venues and even in different emirates: at the Jameel Arts Centre, Sharjah Art Foundation in Sharjah and the Warehouse421 gallery in Abu Dhabi.
According to the organizers of the exhibition, they are looking forward to the new art season, which will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the unification of the country, in fact, the "golden jubilee" of the UAE. The exhibition itself, like the Emirates, promises to be international, diverse and dynamic. In the near future, the exhibition program will appear on its official website.
Since its inception, the Art Dubai exhibition aims to expand the scope of art and make it a subject of discussion beyond traditional art spaces and galleries. It exhibits the works of both young talents and recognized masters. The galleries present works of contemporary art. The exhibition program also includes panel discussions, performances and special events.
