Dubai's RTA and Terra Tech Unveil Battery-Swapping Stations
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to install battery-swapping stations for electric bikes throughout the emirate. This strategic move aims to promote sustainable transport and significantly reduce emissions.
Collaboration with Terra Tech
The RTA's initiative is being developed in collaboration with Terra Tech, a leading MENA-based B2B micro-mobility technology start-up. Specializing in battery-swapping infrastructure, Terra Tech is partnering with the RTA to launch the first project of its kind in the region, supporting zero-emission delivery fleets.
Integrated System for Delivery Sector
The partnership will create an integrated system specifically designed for the delivery sector. This system will not only meet operators' charging needs but also aim to minimize the total cost of ownership for electric bike fleets.
Invitation to Delivery and Commercial Partners
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030. This strategy targets a 30% reduction in carbon emissions and involves developing 36 operational locations across Dubai. Mahboob stated, "This collaboration supports the development of alternative sustainable energy solutions and enhances the emirate’s readiness to adopt future technologies." He invited delivery and commercial partners to participate in the initiative for a more efficient and sustainable future.
Terra Tech's Role and Vision
Husam Al Zammar, CEO of Terra Tech, highlighted the partnership as a significant milestone. "RTA has always been at the forefront of infrastructure and sustainable transport services, especially in the regulation and enhancement of the delivery sector," he remarked. "We value RTA’s trust in our solution for developing battery-swapping stations and look forward to empowering the electric bike delivery ecosystem in Dubai."
Conclusion
This initiative by RTA and Terra Tech underscores Dubai's commitment to advancing sustainable transport solutions. By fostering a greener delivery ecosystem through battery-swapping stations, the emirate is not only poised to reduce emissions but also improve service quality, benefiting both residents and businesses alike.
