Commercial vehicles in Abu Dhabi have been exempted from paying registration fee until the end of the year, police have announced.
"In line with #AbuDhabi's Economic Stimulus package, registering commercial vehicles is free of charge until end of 2020. @ADPoliceHQ in cooperation with its strategic partners will apply the decision retroactively to completed registrations after March 16, 2020 and grant refunds," Abu Dhabi Police said on Twitter.
Police said the exemption on registration fees for commercial vehicles is applicable from March 16, 2030 until the end of the year.
A series of initiatives have been implemented in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE as part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 and to waive fees from motorists due to the impact of the pandemic.
In March this year, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that motorists across the country would be able to get their vehicle registration renewed without paying the fines accrued or getting the vehicle tested.
The ministry said the decision was part of the country's preventive measures to protect customers from Covid-19. "Customers may benefit from this measure without the need to pay traffic fines, perform vehicle inspection or risk confiscation or traffic points," the ministry had tweeted.
Also in March, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi said it had implemented Abu Dhabi Executive Council's decision that exempts all individual and company/commercial vehicles from Abu Dhabi toll gate fees until the end of 2020.
"The decision is part of several initiatives launched by the Executive Council in support of Abu Dhabi's Accelerator Programme, Ghadan 21," said the ITC.
