UAE's Etihad to introduce 'neighbour-free seat' option in Economy
Airline says to bring in charges for Economy passengers to access lounges, chauffeur services also reviewed
Etihad Airways passengers will be able to pay for chauffeur services, lounge access and a free seat next to them regardless of ticket class, the Abu Dhabi-based carrier has announced.
The new options are part of a series of changes designed to offer increased value and flexibility to passengers, the airline said.
The new ‘Neighbour-Free Seat’ option will allow Economy Class passengers to enhance their in-flight experience by “bidding” for up to three empty seats next to them, subject to availability and cabin configuration, Etihad said.
Guests can bid at the time of booking online. Successful bids will be confirmed 30 hours prior to departure.
Etihad said it would continue its complimentary chauffeur services in Abu Dhabi for all eligible Business and First Class guests at all A380 destinations.
However, chauffeur services for Business and First Class are to become a paid option at all international destinations, and Economy Class guests will also be able to pay for Eithad chauffeur services, at Abu Dhabi, allowing Etihad Guest members to accrue miles on airport transfer bookings.
Economy Class passengers will also be able to pay for Premium Lounge Access at international destinations, and Business Class passengers will be able to pay to be upgraded for First Class Lounge and Spa access, Etihad said.
The changes are to be implemented from July 3.
Mohammad Al Bulooki, executive vice-president, commercial, for Etihad Airways, said: “Etihad Airways is constantly looking at ways to improve its value proposition for guests, focusing on the service elements that are most important to them.
“[These changes are] being put in place as the airline looks to evolve its product proposition while continuing to match individual customer requirements.
“Following a review, the chauffeur services we offer will be amended globally, with the exception of Abu Dhabi, where there are a high number of users of the service.”
