Brandi Hodges, 40, reportedly complained of not feeling well before fainting
An American woman died on board an Emirates flight from New York City to Dubai late last week, the airline has confirmed.
“Emirates can confirm that ground staff in Dubai contacted medical emergency services at Dubai International (DXB) to assist a passenger disembarking from EK204 on 6 June,” an Emirates spokesperson said. “Emirates offers its condolences to the passenger’s family and is providing them with assistance.”
According to US media reports, the woman, 40-year old Chicago resident Brandi Hodges was travelling with her cousin to Dubai for a holiday.
As the aircraft landed in Dubai, Hodges reportedly began complaining that she did not feel well.
“So they sat down, and Brandi fainted,” cousin Gloria Ray-Banks told ABC 13. “Then, my sister went and got one of the flight attendants.”
The report added that Hodges woke up and was given oxygen and ice, but fainted again shortly after.
She was later taken by paramedics to a medical room inside the airport, where they unsuccessfully attempted to revive her with a defibrillator.
Banks added that the family plans to begin the process to repatriate Hodges’ body on Sunday.
