The airline based in Abu Dhabi stated that the aircraft are scheduled to be incorporated into the fleet beginning in 2028.
US President Donald Trump announced over $200 billion in deals between the US and UAE, including a $14.5 billion commitment from Etihad Airways for 28 Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft powered by GE engines, the White House said. Etihad confirmed the order, stating the planes, set to join its fleet from 2028, align with its network and operational needs.
The White House highlighted that the deal strengthens the US-UAE aviation partnership, boosting American manufacturing and exports. Etihad, owned by Abu Dhabi’s $225 billion ADQ wealth fund, operates a fleet of about 100 aircraft. CEO Antonoaldo Neves said the airline aims to expand to over 170 planes by 2030, supporting Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification.
Etihad is undergoing a multi-year restructuring and has expanded under Neves’ leadership. This year, it plans to add 20–22 new aircraft, including 10 Airbus A321LRs, six Airbus A350s, and four Boeing 787s. The A321LRs launched recently and will begin operations in August.
In a separate deal, Boeing secured a $96 billion order from Qatar Airways for 160 jetliners, with options for 50 more, during Trump’s visit to Qatar, marking Boeing’s largest wide-body aircraft deal.
