The bodies of three Indian sailors have been recovered from the sea in Sharjah after their ship sank during rough weather over the weekend.
The sailors’ bodies were recovered from the sea off Al Hamriya coast on Saturday, officials said.
The Sharjah Coast Guard and police air wing rescued four other sailors and moved them to Khalifah hospital in Ajman to receive treatment.
Five cargo ships ran aground in Sharjah and Umm Al Quwwain over the weekend, officials at Al Hamriya Municipality said.
"It will take some time until the ships are removed from the shores. The sea is still rough and it might affect the removal," said Mubarak Al Shamsi, director of Al Hamriya Municipality.
"Our teams have made sure that there are no spills from these vessels that might affect the environment," he said.
The municipality is coordinating efforts to move the vessels.
