Abu Dhabi, UAE — The Federal Court of Appeals has sentenced three defendants to death for the kidnapping and murder of Moldovan-Israeli citizen Zvi Kogan. A fourth defendant received a life sentence.
The case was heard by the State Security Chamber of the Federal Court, where all judges unanimously found the defendants guilty of premeditated murder with terrorist intent. The three defendants who carried out the murder and kidnapping were sentenced to death, while the accomplice, who assisted them, was sentenced to life imprisonment followed by deportation after serving the sentence.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
In January 2025, Attorney General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi ordered a swift trial. Investigations carried out by the State Security Prosecution revealed that the defendants had tracked and murdered the victim. The court was presented with evidence, including detailed confessions from the defendants, forensic reports, post-mortem examination findings, details of the instruments used in the crime, and witness testimonies.
Court's Decision and Consequences
The verdict demonstrates the UAE's commitment to combating terrorism and upholding the highest standards of justice. Under UAE law, death sentences are automatically subject to appeal and can be reviewed by the Criminal Division of the Federal Supreme Court.
