The 46-year-old doctor from the emirate of Sharjah is sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for Islam insult.
The criminal court of the city of Haur-Fakkan in the emirate of Sharjah on Tuesday sentenced the 46-year-old Syrian doctor to seven years of imprisonment and obliged him to pay a penalty in the amount of 500 thousand dirham ($136,1 thousand) for an insult of God and Islam. The court also provided deportation after serving of prison term by it.
The sentence was announced by the judge Ahmad Al Dkhankhani.
It is reported that the decision became result of a dispute of July 30 between the defendant and the owner of medical clinic in Haur-Fakkan. According to protocols of prosecutor's office, the defendant designated as A.M., I worked in medical clinic. The suspect got into conversation on a professional subject with the owner of organization who developed into a dispute. During it A.M. I pronounced the words offending Islam. The owner of clinic contacted police Haur-Fakkana who made arrest of the doctor. The prosecutor's office imputed to the suspect violation of the law about fight against discrimination the UAE. The suspect is also a Muslim.
Testimonies of other staff of clinic were heard in court. It was proved that the defendant is guilty of offensive notes and humiliation of advantage of the applicant.
The representative of court reported to the Gulf News edition that the sentence is the first in own way, taken out in the vessels Eastern Region from the moment of a release of the Law in the UAE in 2015.
The law on fight against discrimination in the UAE forbids any act considered as offensive for god, his prophets, apostles, sacred books, houses of worship or cemeteries. Penalties for violation of various provisions of the law include prison terms term from six months to more than 10 years and penalties at the rate from 50 thousand to 2 million dirham ($13,6-544,4 thousand).
