The UAE Digital Government (DGOV) explained on its website that non-Emirati citizens who come to the country for work or residence must undergo six medical examinations to ensure that they are medically fit, and then have the right to continue the procedure for obtaining a residence permit.
DGOV explained that in order to be able to obtain a work/residence permit, whether new or renewable, foreign citizens must be free from all forms of infectious diseases such as HIV and tuberculosis.
In addition, the following categories of workers must pass a negative test for syphilis and hepatitis B: kindergarten workers, domestic workers, including maids, nannies and drivers, catering workers and employees of restaurants and cafes, employees of salons and beauty salons, employees of health clubs. Women working as domestic workers must take a negative pregnancy test.
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi conducts screening of foreign citizens for the detection of pulmonary tuberculosis using chest radiography; however, the Emirate of Dubai does not do this.
In 2016, a Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers was adopted. According to this decree, all permanently residing foreign citizens must undergo a tuberculosis examination when extending their residence visas.
Those who have scars or active tuberculosis, or who have drug-resistant tuberculosis, will be issued a certificate of conditional fitness and issued a residence visa for a period of one year. Then they will have to undergo treatment in the UAE.
DGOV also pointed out that there are some jobs that require academic certificates for an expatriate to be able to go through the procedures for obtaining a residence permit and work, so he/she must make sure that his/her certificates are properly certified in his/her home country, first at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then at the embassy or consulate UAE.
It also pointed out that there are also some jobs in the UAE that require equivalence through the Ministry of Education.
DGOV also reported that there are some professions in the UAE that require local tests before obtaining a work permit, such as medicine, medical laboratories, nursing and others that require a foreigner to take an exam at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection or other local health authorities, such as the Dubai Health Authority and the Department of Health Abu Dhabi.
In addition, it mentioned the necessary information that you need to know before moving to live or work in the UAE.
This information helps expatriates to stay in the country legally and comfortably.
A foreigner's passport must be valid for at least six months, in addition to obtaining a permit to enter the country, in accordance with the procedures followed by the General Directorate for Residents and Foreigners in the destination Emirate.
UAE law prohibits working under a visiting or tourism permit or otherwise, whether for a fee or without payment. The violator, whether an employee or an employer, is subject to a fine and deportation, DGOV reports.
