Sharjah Charity International Expands Humanitarian Efforts with Water Projects and Global Aid Initiatives
Sharjah Charity International (SCI) has reached a significant milestone in its mission to provide clean drinking water to regions struggling with severe shortages. In 2024, the organization successfully drilled 8,860 wells and established six desalination plants across multiple African and Asian nations, investing Dhs 34.2 million to improve water accessibility for thousands in need.
Addressing the Global Water Crisis
Mohammed Rashid Bin Bayat, Vice Chairman of SCI, emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. He highlighted that these initiatives go beyond providing drinking water—they contribute to public health, stabilize communities, and support agricultural economies. The newly constructed desalination plants are set to provide sustainable, long-term solutions for both drinking water and farming, ensuring that communities thrive despite harsh environmental conditions.
SCI’s Ramadan Iftar Project: Feeding Thousands Across 43 Countries
In addition to its water initiatives, SCI has launched the "Ramadan Iftar" project, delivering 300,000 meals to fasting individuals in 43 countries during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This Dhs 3 million initiative, conducted in coordination with local authorities, underscores the organization’s commitment to global humanitarian aid.
Khaled Hassan Al Ali, Director of Projects and External Aid Department, expressed pride in the project’s expansion, reinforcing SCI’s mission to spread values of generosity and solidarity while reaching as many vulnerable individuals as possible.
SCI’s Strategic Planning for Humanitarian Growth
During its January 2024 board meeting, chaired by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the SCI council reviewed key agenda items to enhance the organization’s charitable operations in the Emirate of Sharjah and beyond.
The board approved the "Jood" Ramadan campaign, aiming to increase outreach, refine campaign strategies, and address previous challenges. Structural amendments were also endorsed to improve operational efficiency, alongside the introduction of new sustainable charitable initiatives within the UAE and internationally.
Among the key discussions was a charitable endowment project dedicated to supporting patients in the Majaz area, aligning with broader efforts to enhance free healthcare facilities across Sharjah. Additionally, a delegation was assigned to oversee construction and maintenance projects at Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi Village in Niger, ensuring the effectiveness of SCI’s ongoing humanitarian efforts.
Winter Relief Initiative: Protecting Thousands from Extreme Cold
In December 2024, SCI launched the "Dathironi" winter relief campaign, funded by Dubai Islamic Bank, to support over 7,000 people in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina facing harsh winter conditions.
During a field visit, SCI’s delegation, led by Abdullah Sultan Bin Khadim, Executive Director, distributed heavy clothing, blankets, and heating supplies to vulnerable families affected by severe frost and freezing temperatures.
Bin Khadim praised Dubai Islamic Bank's commitment to charitable work, noting its role in funding key SCI initiatives, including Zakat Al Mal projects and various social responsibility programs. He reaffirmed SCI’s dedication to humanitarian leadership, ensuring aid reaches those who need it most, even in remote and extreme environments.
Commitment to Global Humanitarian Aid
SCI’s ongoing efforts reflect its vision of providing sustainable solutions for communities in need. Whether through clean water initiatives, food distribution programs, healthcare projects, or winter relief efforts, the organization continues to make a meaningful impact worldwide.
With strong partnerships and strategic planning, SCI remains at the forefront of humanitarian aid, working tirelessly to enhance lives and build a future where no one is left without essential resources.
