Both emirates announce new measures to fight the spread of new coronavirus
Sharjah and Ajman on Monday announced the temporary closure of wedding venues, fitness clubs, cinemas and theme parks as part of precautionary measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, known as Covid-19.
Shopping malls in Ajman will also see the installation of thermal surveillance equipment to monitor the temperatures of visitors, state news agency WAM reported.
The Ajman Department of Economic Development and the Tourism Development Department have directed the owners of wedding and event venues to immediately cease any activity until the end of March.
In a statement, the Ajman DED said that it had also instructed owners of bodybuilding and fitness clubs and massage and therapeutic centres in the emirate to immediately close.
The DED also directed shopping malls to provide thermometers at the entrances by next week at the latest.
Inspections will be conducted to ensure strict compliance with the circular, the DED statement added.
In Sharjah, the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) also announced that it has intensified health and safety control campaigns.
According to a statement, all cinemas, amusement parks, amusement and electronic games centres, bodybuilding and fitness gyms are to close until March 31.
Salem Al Suwaidi, deputy director of commercial control and protection department at SEDD, said that the department is prepared to deal with various situations and emerging developments as part of its working framework to monitor and regulate markets.
Commercial officers at SEDD are carrying out inspection campaigns, visiting the emirate's markets, sales outlets, societies and pharmacies in the country, he added.
