The Alamo BBQ Brunch in The Blacksmith Smokehouse is more about sharing good food and enjoying a chilled out vibe
As a novice long distance runner, I'm well versed in the saying'it's a marathon, not a sprint'. Sadly, this has not converted to the Dubai brunch scene.
A perfect example of this is The Alamo BBQ Brunch in The Blacksmith Smokehouse at the Wyndham Dubai Marina.
Promising the very best of all-things Tex-Mex, it’s no exaggeration to say that once the starters had been cleared away I could happily have surrendered for the afternoon.
The Texas brisket nachos, lamb sliders and BBQ wings were enough. Raise the white flag. I was done.
Fortunately, certainly in terms of brunches, this one was something of a marathon – four hours. And so there was plenty of time to take in the ambiance and enjoy the music, as well as some refreshments, and let the dust settle before launching another assault on the culinary delights served up by chef Orelle Young, Pitmaster, The Blacksmith Smokehouse.
The outside area is designed around the main BBQ grill which chef Young keeps busy, loading on various cuts on marinated meats throughout the afternoon. With current temperatures almost as hot as the grill itself, enjoying this may have to wait until the winter months where it will be perfect for large groups looking to just chill out and relax.
Inside, take a walk to the live station and choose from a trio of burritos including chicken, brisket and shrimp, made to order by chef Young, complete with rice, beans, pico de gallo, salsa picante, smoked mushrooms and creamy avocado. Again, I found that greed took over and admit, one between two of these monsters is probably sufficient.
And then sit back as the sharing platters of steak sliders, with that unmistakeable smoked southern taste; fries, coleslaw and The Blacksmith’s signature corn Hushpuppies – a particular highlight – are delivered straight to your table. Friendly staff will bring you more of anything you want!
Finally, a Lone Star State special – the infamous Texas Ice Cream Sandwich – a butter-grilled brioche complete with vanilla, lemon and cinnamon glaze.
This is a great value brunch that is more about sharing good food and enjoying a chilled out vibe as opposed to other, more hectic, brunches. Definitely leave the skinny jeans at home and bring your appetite!
The soft drinks package comes in at AED169, the house beverage package is priced at AED219 and the sparkling package is AED399 – the latter can also be redeemed with a two-for-one vouchers with The Entertainer.
