Maiden international flight by Air Peace to be followed by five more destinations by end of 2019
Nigeria’s flag carrier, Air Peace, has launched flights from Lagos to Sharjah.
In what was its first international flight, the airline transported 316 passengers on its 324-seater Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The route between Nigeria and the UAE will operate three times weekly.
“Air Peace is now recognised as a national carrier, based on the BASA (Bilateral Air Services Agreement) and whatever the airline is doing will be linked to Nigeria,” said Mohammed Rimi, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the UAE, in a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to Air Peace chairman Allen Onyema, the airline is to increase its B777 aircraft to serve a further five international flights by the end of the year.
As well as the Sharjah route, Air Peace is looking to serve Johannesburg, Guangzhou, Mumbai, London and Houston, from its Lagos base.
At a ceremony in Sharjah Onyema said, in its four years in operation, Air Peace had created direct employment to over 3,000 Nigerians and indirect employment to 4,000
