The subway of Dubai in the expanded look will begin to function on May 20, 2020, in 5 months prior to Dubai Expo-2020 start.
In official Twitter Dubai Media Office reported that the Route-2020 project of the Dubai subway covering expansion of the red line on 15 km from the Nakheel Harbour & Tower station to the venue of Expo-2020 in Dzhebel Ali will begin to function on May 20, 2020, in 5 months prior to the exhibition.
Also department shared with subscribers that the sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad bin Rasheed Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai, pledged a stone to the base of building.
In June the Management on roads and transport of Dubai (RTA) announced the conclusion of the contract for 10,6 billion dirham ($2,89 billion) with Expolink Consortium led by the French company Alstom, Acciona from Spain and the Turkish Gulermak on expansion implementation. The project includes purchase of 50 trains: 35 for upgrade of service of the subway and 15 for Expo.
Route 2020, as expected, will serve about 125 thousand people a day, and by 2030 this number will grow to the whole 275 thousand people.
Trial starts on the 15-kilometer site shall begin by the end of 2019.
Expansion of a route will begin with Nakheel Harbour & Tower and will add to the red line five elevated and two underground stations which will cover such residential districts as Discovery Gardens, Furjan, Jumeirah Golf Estate and Investment Park Dubai.
Passengers will be able to reach from Dubai Marina to the venue of Expo-2020 in 16 minutes, officials claim.
