In 2018, 900 thousand passengers passed through the new Dubai international airport al Maktoum.
CIS countries, Western and Eastern Europe are among the top regions that contributed to a significant increase in the number of flights and passenger traffic at Dubai international airport al Maktoum (al Maktoum International Airport, DWC).
At the same time, Russia has provided almost half of the passenger traffic, sending about 400 thousand passengers to the new airport in 2018. Behind it in the list of leaders Germany (170 thousand) and Lebanon (55 thousand). Most passengers came from Moscow, Beirut and Polish Katowice.
Currently, the services of al Maktoum airport are used by ten passenger airlines, which make an average of 21 flights per week in seven directions, and twenty cargo airlines. In total, in 2018, al Maktoum international airport served almost 30 thousand flights.
The airport management connects the growth in the number of passengers with the introduction of new services in the field of regular and Charter flights in the second half of the year.
In 2019, the airport is preparing for more active operation in connection with the reconstruction of the southern runway at Dubai International airport (DXB). The closure of the strip will entail a reduction in capacity and the new al Maktoum airport will take a month and a half to take regular, Charter and cargo flights, previously served in the main air Harbor of Dubai – Dubai International airport.
Recall that at the end of 2018, the Dubai international airport served 89.1 million passengers. Passenger traffic from Russia increased by 14.5% and reached 1.5 million tourists in 2018, from China-by 6% and reached 3.5 million passengers, which was the result of simplification of the visa regime in 2017 and 2016, respectively.
