My City Centre Masdar, the Dh300-million eco-friendly mall with sustainability at its heart, opened in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Touted as one of the region's most sustainable malls, it's Majid Al Futtaim's first shopping mall in Abu Dhabi and 25th in the region. The mixed-used development aims to make efficient use of resources including energy and water management.
The mall includes Carrefour Hypermarket's 100th store in the UAE. It is marking the occasion by becoming the first hypermarket in the UAE to say not to plastic bags.
Hani Weiss, chief executive officer of Majid Al Futtaim - retail, said the Carrefour UAE is bringing new and innovative concepts in the market. "Our markets are transitioning and expanding offline as well as online. Our digital transformation comprised of carrefouruae.com and carrefournow.com specifically catered to satisfy our customers' demands. Individuals today are looking for a new and fresh range of products, not only locally but globally and that is why we are bringing in new international ranges of food and non-food products," Weiss said told Khaleej Times.
"Carrefour UAE is bringing new concepts to tailor to their customers' needs. The valet trolley is one of our many concepts adjusting to such convenience as we have upgraded to delivering the individual's groceries directly to their home while they can still enjoy an unforgettable customer experience."
Ahmed Galal Ismail, chief executive officer of Majid Al Futtaim - Properties, said My City Centre Masdar will be one of the region's most sustainable malls.
"My City Centre Masdar underlines Majid Al Futtaim's commitment to an enhanced living environment driven by the UAE's long-term sustainability goals."
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, chief executive officer of Masdar, said the development reinforces status of Masdar City as a location for businesses and international brands, and of the commercial appeal of low-carbon urban development. "This mall will be a welcome attraction for the residents of Masdar City and the surrounding community."
My City Centre Masdar features more than 70 stores across 18,500sq.m. of gross leasable area including Redtag, Carrefour, Life Pharmacy, Al Jaber Optical, Zaatar w Zeit, Kababji and Cinnabon.
