Headline acts includes French singer Matthieu Chedid and Lebanese jazz musician Ibrahim Maalouf
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will celebrate its opening from November 11-14 with a series of events including multicultural music, arts and dance performances as well as educational workshops.
Tickets are available online for headline acts from the likes of French singer Matthieu Chedid, Malian performer Fatoumata Diawara, Lebanese jazz musician Ibrahim Maalouf and singer and dancer Toto La Momposina, whose performances are inspired by Colombian Caribbean traditions. The events are suitable for all ages, according to the museum.
Manuel Rabate, director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, said cross-cultural understanding and the discovery of new traditions from around the world are at the heart of Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collections.
“The spectacular opening week programme really is a celebration of diversity, bringing together talented musicians, artists and performers from countries spanning the globe, and will offer a colourful and unforgettable experience to launch this project,” he said.
Louvre Abu Dhabi is the first museum of its kind in the Arab region which focuses on artworks and artefacts of different eras, starting from the Palaeolithic era. Its future collections will be complemented by loans from leading French museums. The building was designed by architect Jean Nouvel under a 180-metre dome that filters sunlight and shade onto the buildings below in a cinematic ‘rain of light’ effect.
The opening events happening at the Louvre Abu Dhabi were curated by the museum in collaboration with Agence France Museums and artistic and programming advisor Arwad Esber.
