The German airline Air Berlin has declared the beginning of the procedure of bankruptcy. About it говоритсяв the message of concern.
As it is noted, the company will continue to perform regular flights, and the government of Germany will grant the loan in €150 million for the restructuring period.
Such decision has been made after the main shareholder of Air Berlin - the Etihad airline - (owns 29,21% the equity stake) has refused to allocate additional resources for support of unprofitable German carrier.
The concern has added that the procedure of bankruptcy will be carried out by the operating administration.
The Lufthansa company can acquire separate divisions of Air Berlin concern. "Lufthansa already conducts negotiations with Air Berlin on acquisition of divisions of concern and offers thereby an opportunity for employment of personnel — it is noted in the press release. — Lufthansa intends to achieve fast positive result during these negotiations".
The largest airline of Germany has stated that it "together with the government of Germany supports efforts on restructuring" Air Berlin.
"In addition, further operation of the leased planes which make flights for Eurowings and Austrian Airlines (Lufthansa subsidiaries — an editor's note) will be guaranteed" — have assured of concern.
Air Berlin makes flights from Berlin (Tegel airport) and Düsseldorf. Her fleet consists approximately of 120 planes.
Last fall the company has announced plans of reduction up to 1,2 thousand employees and leasing of a part of the plane park because of considerable financial losses.
As of the end of September, 2016 the debt of Air Berlin made about €1 billion. About 40 liners have been leased to the competitor — Lufthansa. According to the company, last year it has transported 28,9 million passengers.
