Metro to run till 2am during Eid Al Adha holidays
Dubai: Parking will be free for six days starting from Sunday, September 11, to Friday, September 16 to mark the Eid Al Adha holidays, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday.
However, Deira Fish Market and multi-level parking buildings will continue to charge fees during the holidays.
The regular fees will be re-activated from Saturday, September 17, across all paid parking zones.
Traffic plans
RTA also announced its elaborate plans for the movement of traffic and public transport during the week-long holidays that begin on Sunday, September 11.
Explaining the details, Maitha Mohammad Bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said: “The RTA has prepared operational plans necessary for serving commuters during the Eid Al Adha holiday. The plan covers the Downtown district where more than 55 directional signs have been installed to direct traffic to and from the district.”
She added that traffic will be directed along Oudh Metha Road through Al Asayel Road, Zabeel bridges through Al Saada Road as well as internal roads of Business Bay leading to Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road in order to ease the pressure on Financial Centre Road.
To ensure smooth traffic flow, the traffic signals on Financial Centre Road and Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard will be optimised according to the traffic situation.
Additional buses
“Streamlined procedures will be in place for buses and taxis which will be deployed in abundance at the pick-up and drop-off points of Dubai Mall, and additional numbers of taxis will be deployed at the mall during peak hours,” she said.
Ten buses will be deployed along the route from Dubai Mall to Trade Centre.
She said that an agreement has been reached with franchise companies to raise the operational efficiency of taxis to 95 per cent to meet the demand during the holidays.
In case of higher demand for taxis in Dubai Mall, a shuttle service will operate to transport people to Deira City Centre Metro station and BurJuman station, where more taxis will be available.
Buses will be available at both the Address Hotel and Lafayette Hotel.
Buses will also be available at the Burj Khalifa Metro station during peak hours.
Meanwhile, RTA announced that its customer care centres will be closed during the Eid Al Adha holidays starting, September 11. The centres will reopen on September 18.
Metro
Beginning Thursday, September 8, metro services on both Red and Green lines will run till 2am. However, the train services will continue to begin at 5.30am and 5.50am for Red and Green lines respectively.
Moaza Al Merri, director of Marketing and Corporate Communication at RTA, said that the metro will revert to regular timings from September 14.
