Over the past year, the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police has shared 372 vital intelligence reports with 44 countries as part of its commitment to tackling global organized crime related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
This collaboration led to the arrest of 308 international suspects and the seizure of 2.259 tonnes of illegal substances, including khat, cocaine, marijuana, and heroin, along with the confiscation of 7.92 million narcotic pills.
During the same timeframe, the department successfully monitored and blocked 1,923 accounts belonging to drug dealers across various social media platforms.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, affirmed that the results from the apprehensions of drug dealers and the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics and pills align with Dubai International Police's ongoing efforts to combat drugs. This includes the deployment of specialized teams and utilizing advanced artificial intelligence technologies, alongside close collaboration with law enforcement agencies globally.
He emphasized that the Dubai Police Force is dedicated to promoting international cooperation in the fight against organized crime to enhance the protection, security, and safety of communities. Over recent years, the force has made significant contributions to combating crime in all its forms, he added.
Five Years of Efforts
Brigadier Khalid bin Muwaiza, Acting Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
“The Dubai Police have made remarkable strides in international drug combat efforts over the past five years, sharing 894 pieces of information with 74 countries worldwide, which resulted in the arrest of 550 international suspects and the seizure of 29.45 tonnes of drugs,” Muwaiza stated.
He pointed out that Dubai Police, in collaboration with international partners, have conducted a series of sophisticated operations to combat drug trafficking. Among these, Operation Sugar Cane is notable for leading to the arrest of a key figure in one of the largest organized crime syndicates engaged in illicit activities between South America and Europe. This network was found smuggling cocaine hidden in sugar shipments, with the seizure of 22 tonnes of cocaine-laced sugar. Another significant operation, Operation Vidaustatin, resulted in the dismantling of an extensive international criminal network involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
Local Efforts
Brigadier Khalid Bin Muwaiza confirmed that the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police is synchronizing its international efforts with local initiatives through specialized field teams dedicated to safeguarding society from the harmful effects of drugs, curbing their spread, and apprehending dealers and promoters, especially in light of emerging methods for drug promotion and smuggling.
He noted that Dubai Police has uncovered several major drug-related cases locally, particularly Operation Storm, which successfully prevented the smuggling of significant amounts of Captagon, exceeding 13 tonnes.
Brigadier Khalid Bin Muwaiza underscored that the General Department of Anti-Narcotics complements its international initiatives with local actions through specialized field teams focused on protecting the community from drug-related issues. He stated that these teams prioritize preventing the spread of drugs and apprehending traffickers and dealers, especially as new tactics for drug promotion and smuggling arise.
Bin Muwaiza emphasized that their operations have effectively safeguarded society from narcotics in all forms, including Operation "Storm," during which Dubai Police successfully seized over 13 tons of Captagon pills.
In addition to their field operations, the Dubai Police, via the International Protection Center, have conducted ongoing awareness campaigns. Over the past year, the center has implemented 333 community awareness programs targeting students, benefiting a total of 13,202,634 individuals from various nationalities. Furthermore, the overall reach of their awareness efforts shared through social media platforms has reached 13,096,344 beneficiaries.
