Purchase made in Concourse D in Dubai Int'l on Thursday sends airport retailer past milestone figure
Dubai Duty Free on Friday revealed that its 2019 sales have crossed the $2 billion mark, putting the airport retailer on track for a record year.
The milestone was hit on Thursday, the company said in a statement.
The sales figure was reached in Concourse D when Indian nationals Neeraj Sati and his wife purchased items from liquor and tobacco worth AED348.
The Satis were travelling back to Mumbai with their family after they had celebrated Christmas in Dubai with their relatives.
They stayed in the city for a total of eight days and will celebrate the New Year in their hometown in Odiza, India.
Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free said: “2019 has been a good year for Dubai Duty Free, we have invested in a number of major refurbishments across the retail operation, and it is fantastic to have achieved the $2 billion figure well before the end of the year.”
To celebrate the milestone, Sati and his daughter were presented with DDF gift cards worth $2,000 by Dubai Duty Free officials.
"Thank you Dubai Duty Free, this is such a pleasant surprise. I will spend this well and buy some gifts for my family back home", said Sati.
