Dubai Duty Free (DDF) is set to continue enhancing its retail operations, with the final phase of renovations in the arrival shops across three terminals scheduled for completion early this year. This initiative aims to improve the shopping experience for travelers and maintain DDF's reputation as a leading travel retail operator.
Dubai Duty Free (DDF) closed 2024 with impressive results, setting a new annual turnover record of Dhs7.901 billion ($2.16 billion), driven by a significant surge in sales towards the year's end. A key milestone was achieved in December, with an all-time high monthly sales figure of Dhs821.94 million, marking a 2% increase over December 2023, the company's previous highest-grossing month.
The remarkable December performance was largely propelled by the 41st-anniversary celebrations on December 20, during which DDF offered a 25% discount across various products. This special promotion led to Dhs59.99 million in sales within just 24 hours. November sales had also shown strong year-on-year growth, setting a positive trajectory for the record-breaking December.
In December, confectionery emerged as a standout category, with sales rising by nearly 29.5% compared to the same month in 2023. Throughout 2024, Dubai Duty Free recorded over 20.733 million sales transactions, averaging 56,649 transactions daily. The retailer sold a total of 55.137 million units of merchandise and welcomed approximately 13.7 million customers across its arrivals and departures stores.
Online sales contributed significantly as well, reaching Dhs97 million and accounting for 2.5% of the total annual sales. Departures store sales, the principal component of DDF's operations, increased by 0.84% year-on-year to Dhs7.121 billion, representing 90% of the total turnover. Conversely, arrivals sales experienced a decline of 12.21%, totaling Dhs537 million or 6.8% of annual sales.
Looking forward, Dubai Duty Free plans to continue enhancing its retail operations with the final phase of renovations in the arrival shops across three terminals, scheduled for completion early this year. This initiative aims to further enhance customer experience and maintain DDF's competitive edge in travel retail.
