Motorists in the UAE capital were reminded of fines for playing on mobile phones while driving a car.
Abu Dhabi police warned motorists against playing games on mobile phones while driving, Recalling significant fines for violators.
At the same time, the police recalled that the traffic rules also prohibit drivers from texting, taking photos, eating and applying makeup.
The road authorities in the UAE consider the violation of the ban on mobile phones a serious crime, for which there is a significant fine. Statistics for the first quarter of 2018 showed that more than 12 thousand drivers were fined for using mobile phones while driving.
Experts on road safety supported the warning, stressing that it is carelessness that most often leads to accidents. "Using the phone distracts the driver and endangers passengers, pedestrians and other road users," Thomas Edelmann, Manager of Road Safety UAE, gave his comment.
He also added that the games on mobile phones are especially dangerous, as they combine all four factors, each of which can cause an emergency – the driver takes his eyes off the road, stops holding hands on the steering wheel, distracted from driving and stops listening to what is happening on the road.
