Health sector spokesperson Dr Farida Al Hosani says masks must be worn regardless of pre-existing medical conditions
The UAE on Saturday recorded 241 new cases of coronavirus, while the death toll from the deadly Covid-19 rose to 10.
Dr Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson for the UAE health sector, confirmed the death of a 53-year-old at the daily press briefing, although it is unclear whether the patient had any pre-existing medical conditions.
It takes the official number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,505. There are 125 cases recovered.
Dr Hosani has warned the public to expect the total to continue to rise “as we continue extensive contact tracing and isolation and thousands of tests are carried out across UAE”.
Dr Hosani also recommended that members of the public wear face masks for their health and safety, regardless of whether they have cold and flu symptoms or not, “based on results of the latest study that shows how masks can stop the spread of the virus since it is possible to be infected without showing symptoms”.
