Sharjah Police recently apprehended a driver who had installed fake number plates on his vehicle in an attempt to evade detection by traffic surveillance systems. The advanced monitoring systems deployed across internal and external roads of the emirate successfully tracked and identified the vehicle.
Security follow-up revealed that the driver had committed 137 traffic violations, amounting to fines exceeding Dhs104,000. In addition, 308 black points were recorded on his traffic file, and the legal vehicle impoundment period had surpassed 764 days.
Colonel Omar Mohammed Bu Ghanem, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police, stated that the arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts between field traffic teams and the command and control center. The forged plates were intentionally used to mislead security systems, but constant monitoring enabled the teams to trace the driver’s route, intercept the vehicle, and detain the offender.
The case was referred to public prosecution, and all violations were officially documented on the driver’s record.
Colonel Bu Ghanem emphasized that tampering with or forging number plates is not just a traffic violation, but a serious offense that can lead to criminal charges. He warned that such actions endanger the safety of all road users and reflect a blatant disregard for public safety and legal obligations.
Sharjah Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards reckless and illegal driving behavior. With the support of smart surveillance systems, they continue to closely monitor roads and take strong legal measures to maintain safety, protect property, and uphold law and order in the community.
