Expo 2020 Dubai making progress in developing site
Expo 2020 Dubai has made remarkable progress in developing the expo site, putting on a unique experience, attracting visitors, countries and commercial partners to participate, according to the Expo Dubai CEO.
Simon Clegg, chief operating officer for Expo 2020 Dubai was speaking at the recent 160th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), said a statement.
The BIE is the intergovernmental organisation in charge of overseeing and regulating all international exhibitions that last more than three weeks and are of non-commercial nature (Expos).
Clegg said: “The past year has been one of remarkable progress for Expo 2020 Dubai. When our organisation first came to the BIE in 2011, we had a dream and a defining set of aspirations: to attract more international visitors to a World Expo than ever before, to welcome more participating countries than any previous World Expo, and for each nation to have its own pavilion.”
“As shown at this event, our dream, vision and aspirations are taking tangible form. Our team is in place, our work has begun and a legacy is being created,” he added.
Expo 2020 Dubai is guided by the belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas combining in new ways.
Over the course of six months from October 2020, Expo aims to bring together hundreds of countries and millions of people to celebrate human ingenuity: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
The expo will open on October 20, 2020, and will run until April 10, 2021.
More than 70 per cent of all visitors are expected to come from outside the UAE - the largest proportion of international visitors in event’s history, it stated.
