Emirates Airline Set to Accept Cryptocurrency Payments Through Crypto.com Partnership
Imagine booking your next Emirates flight using cryptocurrency. That future is becoming a reality. Emirates Airline has signed a landmark agreement with leading digital assets platform Crypto.com, setting the stage for passengers to pay for tickets and services using cryptocurrencies as early as 2025.
A Step Towards Fintech Leadership
The announcement was made official this week with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Dubai. Present at the signing were Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group, along with Michael Doersam, Emirates’ chief financial and group services officer.
The agreement was formalised by Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ deputy president and CCO, and Mohammed Al Hakim, president of Crypto.com’s UAE operations.
According to Kazim:
“Partnering with Crypto.com to integrate cryptocurrency into our digital payments system reflects Emirates’ commitment to meeting evolving customer preferences. It’s in line with Dubai’s vision to be at the forefront of financial innovation, while giving our customers more flexibility in how they transact with us.”
What This Means for Travellers
Once integrated, the partnership will allow Emirates customers to use Crypto.com Pay to purchase:
- Flight tickets
- Upgrades
- Ancillary services
Instead of relying solely on traditional payment methods, customers will have the option to pay using popular cryptocurrencies. This gives frequent flyers and crypto enthusiasts more freedom and aligns with Dubai’s push toward becoming a global digital finance hub.
Crypto.com’s Expanding Influence
For Crypto.com, this collaboration is a major milestone. The platform already has partnerships across industries like sports and entertainment, but working with a global airline solidifies its role in mainstream finance.
Eric Anziani, president and COO of Crypto.com, commented:
“This partnership brings real momentum to the digital asset industry. Working with a global brand like Emirates allows us to expand crypto’s everyday use cases and offer innovative finance solutions for customers in the region.”
The two companies are also planning joint marketing initiatives to raise awareness about crypto payments and encourage broader adoption among travellers.
Dubai’s Growing Crypto Ecosystem
This development is part of a larger trend in Dubai and the UAE, where cryptocurrency is becoming increasingly integrated into everyday life. From real estate developers to telecom operators, various sectors have begun accepting crypto as a form of payment.
Dubai’s regulatory environment is notably crypto-friendly, and the emirate continues to attract blockchain and fintech companies looking for a progressive and supportive market.
Emirates’ move is a clear sign that cryptocurrency is no longer confined to niche users. It’s a step toward mass adoption, particularly in industries that see high transaction volumes and a global customer base.
What’s Next?
While specific cryptocurrencies and fee structures have not yet been confirmed, the system is expected to be rolled out gradually through 2025. Emirates has promised regular updates via its official channels.
For now, customers and crypto enthusiasts can stay tuned for further announcements, while considering how this might change the way they book and pay for air travel in the near future.
