The aquarium in Sharjah has begun the work only in 2008 and at once became one of the main sights of the city. The aquarium occupies the space of 6500 m ². On two floors 20 aquariums in which 1,8 million liters of water hold and contain about 250 types of sea inhabitants, including aggressive moray eels and sharks are placed. The second floor of an aquarium occupies the museum devoted to sea flora and fauna.
The aquarium and the museum acquaint visitors with inhabitants of coral reeves, the mangrove woods and rock pools. The aquarium in Sharjah has been based not so much to entertain tourists, how many with the educational purpose directed to acquaintance to the wild nature, environmental problems and opportunities of preservation of the wild nature of the seas and oceans.
