Ensuring that our educational systems adapt to this new world of tomorrow, defined by its own set of jobs, opportunities, and uncertainties, will empower future generations and reinforce our economy further, the managing director of DIAC said
As the ongoing digital revolution, further boosted by the Covid-19 pandemic, changes the way we live and work, the education industry will be among the most significantly impacted, an expert told Arabian Business.
This impact is evident in the major restructuring of the UAE’s educational system announced by the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Sunday, May 22.
“The latest announcements regarding the changes to the sector are strategic initiatives that will invariably empower future generations of independent thinkers and innovators,” Mohammad Abdullah, the managing director of the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) said.
“Ensuring that our education systems adapt to this new world of tomorrow, defined by its own set of jobs, opportunities, and uncertainties, will empower future generations and reinforce our economy further.”
The restructuring included a slew of appointments as well as the establishment of the Federal Authority for Quality and Standards of Education, which will measure educational outcomes, student performance, and the efficiency of the educational process.
Additionally, the federal authority will be responsible for measuring the quality of education, auditing outputs related to education, early childhood education, kindergarten, as well as public and higher education.
“Whether it comes to the explosion of technology over the past two decades or the emphasis on soft skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and people management, introducing youth to these subjects will help drive innovation and strengthen our national economy,” Abdullah added.
According to the new structure, the responsibilities of the Ministry of Education will include developing policies, strategies, and legislation.
Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi will become the Minister of Education, while Sarah Al Amiri will become the Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and the Chairwomen of the Emirates Schools Establishment.
“As MENA’s largest educational hub, we champion the importance of education in achieving the vision of our leadership and sustainably advancing our key industries with skilled talent and brilliant minds,” Abdullah concluded.
“The government’s continued agility and foresight will serve us in positioning Dubai as the ultimate destination for academic excellence.”
