Social media: Four UAE Instagram retailers to watch out for
Lilian Afshar now has 40,000 Instagram followers
With Instagram’s community having crossed 63 million across the MENA region last year, more and more brands are opting to start their concepts on the social media platform.
1. L’afshar
Designer Lilian Afshar launched L’afshar in 2014 after her travel experiences inspired her to create box clutches with marble patterns. But it was her Instagram profile that helped shoot the brand to fame, attracting over 40,000 followers and celebrity clients including Bella Hadid and Kate Upton.
The brand is sold online through the platform but is also stocked in stores around the world.
2. Katya Kovtunovich
The Russian entrepreneur sells her Dubai-based clothing brand internationally through her website, but she attracts a large number of buyers through her Instagram account. She sells beach dresses, kaftans and modest wear for between $200 and $1,000.
3. FMM Dubai
With over 150,000 followers, Fatma Al Mulla’s FFM Dubai sells products ranging from clothes to accessories and handbags.
Al Mulla, who majored in photography, started using the photo-sharing app to showcase her artwork, which focuses on unique perspectives of her Emirati culture. The brand sells products via WhatsApp and an official website.
4. Coconut Couture
The online fashion retailer tested the e-commerce waters on Instagram by selling beachwear before gaining over 10,000 followers, encouraging it to expand into all categories including dresses, accessories and handcrafted items. It offers next day delivery in the UAE but also ships worldwide.
