Mike Tyson Academy in Dubai opening delayed to 2019
Mike Tyson Academy CEO Frederic Madzimba said there are plans to open in Saudi Arabia and across the Gulf region
The opening of the Mike Tyson Academy (MTA), which was scheduled for Dubai by the end of 2017, has now been delayed to 2019, according to its CEO Frédéric Madzimba, aka Fred Frenchy.
The fitness and boxing concept by former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is expected to feature cardio strength, functional training and boxing exercises, including regular visits by the champion himself.
Tyson was in Dubai for the project announcement in April last year, where he publicised the Burj Khalifa as the location for the academy.
However, speaking to Arabian Business, Madzimba said the academy is seeking a new site for its opening next year.
“We have lost our preferred location, which is why we are re-adjusting things, but Dubai will definitely open; that’s for sure” Madzimba said, adding that there are plans to open MTA in Saudi Arabia.
“We have strong demand from Saudi Arabia, so MTA will launch in the rest of the GCC and Middle East by the end of 2019,” he said.
The academy in Dubai is one of eight scheduled to open around the world, with France opening in April 2019 and Australia following closely behind.
Madzimba said the opening of the Dubai branch will see Tyson visit the city for the academy’s inauguration next year.
