Friday hours to change on Dubai Metro's red line for Route 2020 work
Hours of operations on Dubai Metro's red line will change on Fridays for the next few weeks, the RTA announced
The hours of operations on Dubai Metro's red line will change on Fridays for the next few weeks, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Wednesday.
Commencing Friday and continuing on February 7, 14, 21 and 28, plus March 6 and 13, the red line will start at 2pm and continue to 1am Saturday.
Metro timing will revert to normal operational hours on Fridays on March 20.
Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of Rail Agency, RTA, called on the public to use alternative transport modes and recommended them to plan their journeys in advance.
“The change of operational timing of the Dubai Metro Red Line on the above mentioned dates is dictated by the need to carry operational tests for the integration of the systems of Route 2020 and ensure the optimal operation of the network. It will also ensure that the regular service on those days is not disrupted,” said Younes.
The Route 2020 expansion project will link the metro service to the venue of Expo 2020 Dubai, which opens in October and runs until April 2021.
“RTA is always keen on the smooth running of the metro service for riders on all weekdays, Fridays and holidays unless in exceptional cases, such as this,” he added.
Awareness messages are being broadcasted to metro riders about the change of operational hours through announcements at metro stations, onboard metro cabins, and through leaflets and posters at stations. Messages are also being transmitted via smart screens at stations and ticket vending machines.
